A MOT test: what is it?

MOT DEADLINES & INTERVALS

According to the vehicle’s title deed, the MOT test needs to be completed four (4) years following the vehicle’s first registration date (concerning new vehicles). The initial inspection is done after two years if the car was originally registered in the Republic of Cyprus as an imported used car. After then, every two years from the date of the prior test. In public use vehicles(rental), the initial test is carried out after 2 years and the periodic inspection every 1 year.

If significant flaws are discovered during the MOT test, the report will only be valid for a maximum of 30 days. The vehicle has to have the required repairs completed within this time, and it needs to return to the mot centre for a re-inspection, for which a fee will be charged.

In case a vehicle comes for re-inspection and 30 days have elapsed since the MOT inspection date, then an initial MOT inspection is carried out instead of a re-inspection and the corresponding inspection fee is paid.

Who will inform me about the MOT check?

The measurements and their results are recorded and collected in the MOT control system. The result is then sent electronically to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works. After the completion of the procedure, the inspector issues the Roadworthiness Test Report. Also, the MOT undertakes to inform the customer about both the results and the overall condition of the vehicle.
